EUREKA

EUREKA is a publicly-funded, intergovernmental network, involving over 40 countries. EUREKA aims to enhance European competitiveness by fostering innovation-driven entrepreneurship in Europe, between small and large industries, research institutes, and universities.

The EUREKA programme can be divided into three instruments:

• Clusters are initiated by European industries and are long-term, strategically significant initiatives that develop technologies of key importance for European competitiveness. Addressing the needs of both large companies and SMEs, they are the engine for industrial innovation and economic growth. Read more on creating or joining Eureka Clusters here .
• Network projects are market-driven innovative R&D projects, devised and run by an international consortium. At EUREKA, these projects are labelled, and project participants often find funding and support through the national innovation agencies and public administrations that make up the EUREKA network. What is the relevance for Circular Cities?

The EUREKA programme is focused on innovation-driven entrepreneurs working together with research institutes and universities. Under the Eurostars programme, funding is focused on research-performing SMEs. Have a look at the EUREKA programme website to learn from previously funded circular projects.

As a city government, you can help innovation-driven companies by pointing them to the opportunity of the EUREKA programme and putting them in contact with universities or research institutes. In addition, you can strengthen the knowledge base on the circular economy in your city by encouraging local universities and research institutes to participate in relevant EUREKA networks.
